- Principal investigator: Estimating the distribution of soil organic carbon stocks in permafrost regions; incorporating spatial heterogeneity and pedogenic processes in Earth system models; evaluating environmental sustainability of regional-scale cellulosic bioenergy production; developing geospatial approaches to quantify human and climate impacts to soil systems.
- Co-principal investigator: DOE projects studying soil carbon response to environmental change and quantifying feedbacks and uncertainties of biogeochemical processes in Earth system models.
- Author and editor: Author of several peer-reviewed publications on geospatial modeling of soil organic carbon, land use change and management impacts on soil systems, life cycle assessment of biofuels, and benchmarking of Earth system models. Technical Editor of Agronomy Journal (American Society of Agronomy publication) and Associate Editor of Vadose Zone Journal (Soil Science Society of America publication).
